How long have Muslims been part of America's story?

Muslims have been part of America’s story for a really long time, even before it was called America!

Imagine your family has lived next door to another family for hundreds of years. That’s how long Muslims have been living here, sometimes as neighbors and friends, sometimes as travelers or explorers.

Some Muslim people came to what we now call America with explorers like Christopher Columbus, way back in the 1400s! Others arrived later, some even before the United States was born. They brought their traditions, languages, and ways of living with them, just like when you bring your favorite toy to school.

Over time, Muslims from different parts of the world, like Africa, India, and the Middle East, came to America too. Each group had its own story, but they all added pieces to the big, happy puzzle that is American history.
