Fairy tales taught me that life should be perfect, but real life is more like a messy playground.
Fairy tales are stories where everything goes right, like when a princess finds her prince with no problems in between. But real life is full of messes and ups and downs, just like when you’re trying to build a sandcastle, and the waves come in and destroy it.
Rachel Anne Kieran explains that fairy tales can make kids feel confused or even sad because they expect everything to be perfect too, but life isn’t always that easy. It's more like playing with toys where sometimes your favorite one breaks, and you have to figure out how to fix it.
Like a Broken Toy
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy car, and it suddenly stops working. You feel upset because you expected it to keep going forever, just like the prince who always finds his princess in fairy tales. But real life is more like when your toy car breaks: sometimes you have to fix it, or maybe get a new one.
Rachel helps kids understand that even though fairy tales are fun, they don’t show the full story of life, and that’s okay!
