How Does Your Phone Know You're There?

Imagine your phone is like a sleepy cat. When you pick it up, it wakes up and turns on the screen so you can see what's happening. This happens thanks to something called a proximity sensor, like a tiny eye that tells the phone when you're near or far away.

When your face is close to the phone, the sensor detects this and turns off the screen so you don't accidentally touch it while talking on the phone. When you move your face away, the phone wakes up again.
