You can win the presidency by getting the most votes in just enough states to get the most electoral votes.
Imagine you're playing a game with your friends where each person gets a certain number of stickers based on how many toys they have. The person who gets the most stickers wins. That’s kind of like what happens in the U. S. presidential election.
How It Works
In the real game, there are 50 states, and each one has a set number of electoral votes, like stickers. To win, you need to get at least 270 electoral votes out of 538 total.
If you only get 22% of all the votes in the country, that means someone else got most of them. But if you win enough states, even with fewer overall votes, you can still get the most electoral votes and win the game, just like winning by getting more stickers than anyone else, even if they had more toys.
So it's not about who has the most total votes, it's about who gets the most stickers (or electoral votes) from the right states.

- A candidate wins the Electoral College by securing key states, even if they only get 22% of the total votes.
- If a candidate wins major states like California and Texas, they can win the presidency with very few votes overall.
