How Does wind explained (explainity® explainer video) Work?

Wind is when air moves from one place to another, just like when you blow on a candle to make it flicker.

Imagine you're sitting in your favorite chair, and the room is still, no movement, no noise. Then, all of a sudden, the curtains start to flutter, and your hair lifts up. That’s wind coming in!

Like a Push from a Friend

Think about when your friend pushes you on a swing. You go forward, then come back, then go forward again, that's how wind works too. The air is like your friend: it pushes the things around it, trees, clouds, even little birds.

Air Moves Because of Heat

Sometimes, the sun warms up the ground or the ocean, and that makes the air above it warm too. Warm air is lighter than cool air, so it rises up like a hot balloon. Then cooler air comes in to take its place, and voilà, we get wind!

It’s not magic, it's just air moving because of heat and pushes, just like when you're playing with your toys or running around outside!
