How Does Wind and Air Science Lesson: How Wind Works Work?

Wind is like when the air in the sky moves from one place to another, just like how you move around when you play tag.

Imagine your bedroom has a fan that blows air toward you, that’s like wind! The air in the sky is always moving because of something called heat, and it's kind of like when you blow on hot soup to cool it down. When the sun warms up the ground, the air near the ground gets warm too, and it starts to rise, just like hot air balloons float up into the sky.

What Makes Wind Move?

Think about when you're outside on a sunny day, your skin feels warm. That's because the sun is heating up the air, making it lighter and causing it to move upward. As that warm air moves away, cooler air comes in to take its place, and boom, that’s how wind is born!

It's like when you open a door on a cold day, the warm room air pushes out, and the cool outside air rushes in to fill the space. That rush of air is wind!
