How Does Thunder and echo Work?

Thunder and echo work like a loud shout in a big empty room, you hear it once, and then it bounces back to you.

How Thunder Happens

When lightning strikes, it makes the air around it super hot really fast. This sudden heat makes the air expand quickly, like when you blow up a balloon. As the air expands, it pushes the air around it, and that push is what we hear as thunder.

How Echo Works

An echo is like when your shout hits a wall or a hill and then comes back to you. When thunder happens far away, the sound travels through the air until it hits something big, like a mountain or a building, and then it bounces back to you. That’s why sometimes you hear thunder twice, once on the way there and once on the way back.

It's just like when you shout in a big room and your voice comes back at you, that’s an echo too! Thunder and echo work like a loud shout in a big empty room, you hear it once, and then it bounces back to you.
