The Climate Action Tracker is like a super smart report card that tells us how well countries are doing at keeping the planet from getting too hot.
Imagine you and your friends are playing a game where everyone has to stay within a certain number of steps from the start line. If someone goes way over, they might get too tired and slow down the whole group. That's kind of like what the Climate Action Tracker does, it checks how far countries are going in their efforts to stop global warming.
How It Works
The tracker uses clues like how much carbon dioxide countries are putting into the air each year, just like counting steps in our game. If a country is doing great and not adding too many extra steps, it gets a good grade, maybe an A! But if it’s adding lots of extra steps, it might get a D or even an F.
Sometimes, countries say they're going to do better next year, just like you might promise to take fewer steps tomorrow. The tracker keeps checking in on them, so we know whether they're keeping their promises or not, and that helps everyone stay on track for a cooler future!
Examples
- Imagine a classroom where each student tracks how much homework is done; the Climate Action Tracker does something similar for countries tracking their carbon emissions.
- Like a weather forecast, but instead of predicting rain, it predicts whether we’re heading toward a warmer planet.
