Dry skin is when your skin loses too much moisture, and it can’t hold on to water anymore.
Imagine your skin is like a sponge. When you soak it in water, it gets soft and full, that’s like having enough moisture inside. But if the sponge sits out in the sun or wind for too long, it starts to shrink and feel rough, just like dry skin!
Why Does This Happen?
Your skin has a natural barrier, kind of like a coat that keeps moisture in and keeps things like dust and dirt out. When this barrier gets hurt or becomes weaker, your skin can’t hold on to its water as well.
Think about wearing a raincoat, it keeps you dry when it rains. But if the raincoat has holes or tears, water gets through, and you get wet. That’s what happens with your skin when it gets too dry, it's like a leaky raincoat!
Sometimes, things like hot showers, cold wind, or even using too much soap can take away that moisture quickly, leaving your skin feeling tight and rough. Your skin is just trying to stay happy and healthy!
