The moon pulls on the ocean, like a giant magnet. When the moon is near Earth, it makes water in the ocean rise up, that’s how we get high tides. Even though the moon is far away, its gravity still affects our oceans every day. It's kind of like when you pull on one end of a rope and the other end moves too.
Examples
- If there was no moon, we wouldn't have tides, just still water.
