How Does the Ocean Create Waves?

The ocean creates waves when wind pushes on the water’s surface and doesn’t stop.

Imagine you're playing with your friend in a pool. Every time they push you, you splash a little. Now imagine they keep pushing you over and over again, that’s what wind does to the ocean! The wind keeps pushing on the water, making it ripple more and more until those ripples grow into full-sized waves.

Once the waves are made, they start traveling across the ocean like bubbles in a bubble bath. They might go far, all the way to the shore! When the waves get close to land, they become bigger and more exciting until whoosh, they crash on the beach.
