Like Two Kids Running Into Each Other
Imagine you're playing with your friend in the playground. You both run toward each other, and boom, you bump into each other. That's what's happening with galaxies. The Milky Way is running toward a galaxy called Andromeda, and they’re going to crash into each other in about 4.5 billion years.
A Slow, Big Bump
Even though it sounds scary, the crash won’t be like a big explosion right away. It’ll feel more like a slow, gentle push, like when you slowly walk into someone on the bus and just nudge them a little bit. Over time, the two galaxies will swirl around each other, eventually becoming one giant galaxy.
What Will Happen to Us?
Don’t worry, we won’t be crushed or burned in the crash. It’ll take billions of years for everything to happen, and by then, humans (or whatever life is left) might even have a front-row seat to the show!
