Our body is like a smart thermostat. When it's cold, we shiver to warm up, it’s like shaking the inside of our blanket. When it's hot, we sweat, it's like turning on a little fan and putting wet clothes on. Our skin helps us feel what's going on outside and tells our brain when to turn up the heat or cool things down.
Examples
- When you're outside in the snow, your body starts shivering, it's like turning on a little heater inside you.
- If you run in hot weather, you get sweaty, it’s your body trying to cool down using water from inside your skin.
- Your mom might tell you to wear a sweater when it's cold because that helps your body keep more heat inside.
