How Does The Greenwich Meridian is in the wrong place Work?

The Greenwich Meridian is like a line on a map that helps us know where we are, but it turned out to be in the wrong place for some people.

Imagine you and your friend both draw a straight line on a piece of paper to divide your toy box. You think the line is exactly halfway, but later you realize it’s actually closer to one side because you both guessed wrong. That’s kind of what happened with the Greenwich Meridian.

Long ago, people started using a special line called the prime meridian, like a “starting point” for telling time and where we are on Earth. They chose Greenwich, England, because it was an important place back then. But scientists later found out that the actual center of the Earth’s rotation is slightly off from where they drew the line.

It's like if you used your favorite pencil to draw a line, but it turned out the real middle of your toy box wasn’t under that pencil, it was somewhere else!

So even though the Greenwich Meridian is still used today, we now know it’s not in the perfect place. But that doesn’t stop it from being helpful!
