What Were The Heretics Doing?
The people who were burned, called heretics, had different ideas about religion than most people did back then. They believed the Church was wrong about some things. It was like saying, “Actually, I think the teacher’s answer is not the only right one!”
Why Did They Burn Them?
The Church thought these heretics were disobedient and might make others question what they believed. So they decided to use fire as a punishment, kind of like getting sent to the principal's office, but much more serious.
They tied the heretics to big posts in the middle of town and lit them on fire until they couldn’t move anymore, it was hot enough to make even the bravest person feel scared!
