The Earth can change really fast when volcanoes, floods, and landslides happen, like when you shake a jar full of marbles and everything moves all at once!
What's a Volcano?
A volcano is like a big, angry cookie jar. Deep inside the Earth, there’s hot melted rock called lava. When it gets too full and too hot, it bursts out, boom!, just like when your cookie jar spills all over the table. This lava can flow down the sides of a mountain, making new land or changing old land in seconds.
What's a Flood?
A flood is like when you pour too much water into a bowl that’s already full. When it rains really hard for a long time, rivers get so full they overflow their banks and spread out across the ground, like your bathtub overflowing and flooding your floor!
What's a Landslide?
A landslide happens when the ground gets slippery and slides down, like when you’re playing on a slide but there’s too much sand underneath. This can happen because of heavy rain or even an earthquake, it’s like the Earth is taking a big tumble!
Examples
- Heavy rain causes rivers to overflow, flooding nearby homes.
- A mountain suddenly slides down into the sea.
