The Earth had a really big problem called the Great Dying, where lots of animals and plants disappeared all at once, like when you spill juice on your favorite toy and it gets ruined forever.
What Was the Great Dying?
Imagine the Earth is like a giant, colorful playground full of different kinds of toys. Each toy represents a kind of animal or plant. But then something very bad happened: the air got too hot, and the oceans got polluted, like if someone threw all their crayons into the puddle outside.
This made it really hard for most of the toys to stay on the playground. Many of them simply vanished, leaving only a few behind. This is what we call the Great Dying, when almost 90% of all life on Earth disappeared because of these changes in the environment.
Why Did It Happen?
Think of it like a really big storm that lasted for thousands of years. The Earth got too hot, and the seas turned sour, like lemon juice. This made it hard for most animals and plants to survive, just like how you might feel tired after running around outside in the heat all day.
It took a long time for life to come back, but eventually, new toys showed up on the playground again!
Examples
