The common cold is like when tiny invisible guests come to stay inside your nose and throat for a few days.
Viruses are the tiny guests, they’re so small you can’t see them, even with a magnifying glass. When you breathe in these viruses, they go on a little adventure through your nose and into your nose and throat, where they start to multiply like tiny party animals.
How the cold makes you feel yucky
Once the viruses are inside you, they cause your body to react. Your body sends out signals that make your nose feel stuffy and your throat feel scratchy, it’s like your body is trying to push these guests out!
You might also start to sneeze or cough, which is your body doing a little dance to try and get rid of the viruses.
What happens after
After a few days, your body wins the battle. The viruses are gone, and you feel better, like when a party ends and everyone goes home. Then you can play again!
