How Does Supernova. Difference Between Type 1 and Type 2 Work?

A supernova is when a star explodes, and there are two main types: Type 1 and Type 2.

Imagine you're playing with building blocks. A Type 2 supernova happens when the star is like a big kid who eats too much candy, it gets so full, it can't hold itself together anymore and pops in a huge explosion.

Now, a Type 1 supernova is more like two kids sharing a snack. One kid (a white dwarf) takes too much from the other (another star), becomes too heavy, and poof, it explodes too!

What's the difference?

  • Type 2 happens when a big star runs out of fuel and collapses in on itself.
  • Type 1 happens when a small, dense star steals material from another and then explodes.

Both are supernovas, but they happen for different reasons, like two different kinds of explosions at a party!

Examples

  1. A star explodes like a giant firework, and depending on its type, like a white dwarf or a massive star, it creates different kinds of explosions.
  2. Type I supernovas are like smaller stars that blow up after stealing gas from another star.
  3. Type II supernovas happen when big stars run out of fuel and collapse in on themselves.
