How Does Sperm and Eggs Cells | Cells | Biology | FuseSchool Work?

Sperm and egg cells work together to make a new person, just like two friends sharing their toys to make something amazing.

Imagine you have a box of red blocks and your friend has a box of blue blocks. When you both share your blocks, you get a mix of red and blue, that's how sperm and egg cells join forces!

Sperm cells are tiny, fast little swimmers, like mini-robots zooming through water to find the egg cell, which is bigger and stays put, like a cozy house waiting for someone to visit.

When one sperm finds the egg, they fuse together, it's like two bubbles joining into one big bubble. This makes a new cell called a zygote, which is like the very first building block of a baby!

Sometimes there are many sperm trying to get in, but only one can make it inside the egg. That’s why we say “the strongest swimmer wins”, just like in a race!

What happens after they fuse?

Once the sperm and egg join together, they start growing and dividing, making more cells until they become a baby. It's like starting with one tiny seed that grows into a big tree, magic doesn't need to be involved!
