How Does Precision vs Accuracy: Chemistry Tutorial Work?

Imagine you're trying to fill up your favorite toy bucket with exactly 10 pebbles, that’s being accurate. But if you end up putting in 9 or 11, you’re still close, that's precision.

What is Accuracy?

Accuracy is like hitting the bullseye on a dartboard. You want your darts to land right where they're supposed to be, exactly at the center. In chemistry, being accurate means getting the correct value or amount of something. If you're measuring sugar for cookies and it's exactly 1 cup, that’s accurate.

What is Precision?

Precision is like throwing all your darts really close together, they might not be on the bullseye, but they’re all in the same spot. In chemistry, being precise means getting very similar results each time you measure something. If you measured sugar for cookies and got 0.95 cups, 1.02 cups, and 1.01 cups, that’s precise, even if it's not perfectly accurate.

So, accuracy is about being right, while precision is about being consistent. A good chemist needs both!
