After World War II, many countries were broken and needed help to get back on their feet, kind of like when you spill a whole jar of jellybeans all over the floor and need someone to clean it up so you can eat them again.
Europe was one of those places. It had been fighting hard in the war, and now it was tired and damaged, like a toy that’s been dropped too many times. But then something happened: the United States gave Europe money and supplies to help rebuild it. This is called the Marshall Plan, named after the man who came up with the idea.
Like Getting a Big Gift
Imagine you're at school, and you've had a really tough week, your backpack is full of broken pencils, your shoes are muddy, and your lunch was just bread and water. Then suddenly, someone gives you a big gift bag filled with new pencils, clean socks, and even a chocolate bar. That’s what happened to Europe, it got this big gift from the United States so it could fix itself up and start doing well again.
This helped countries like France, Germany, and Italy become strong once more, just like how you'd feel super happy and ready for the next week after getting that big gift!
