A poll is like asking a group of friends how they feel about going to the park, some might say it's fun, others might say it's boring.
Polls are when we ask people questions so we can understand what they think. In this case, the poll showed that many Americans feel sad or worried about the economy, which is like how much money people have and whether things are getting better or worse.
Think of the economy like a piggy bank. If you're saving up for a new toy, but your piggy bank is empty, it’s hard to be happy. That's what many Americans feel, their piggy banks aren’t full, and they don't know if they'll get more money soon.
Economic opportunities are like extra coins you can put into your piggy bank, jobs, raises, or even a little cash from Grandma. But right now, it feels like there aren’t many of those coins around for everyone.
So the poll is just telling us that a lot of people feel like their piggy banks need more coins, and they’re not sure when they’ll get them. That’s why they feel bleak, like the sky is gray, and the park doesn't look fun anymore.
