What is plasma?
Plasma is like the super-powered version of gas, it's made of tiny particles that are charged, like little magnets. You can find plasma in things like neon signs and lightning.
How does it travel to Earth?
The Sun sends out waves of hot plasma called solar wind, which travels through space at high speed. Sometimes the Sun gets extra active and sends a bigger wave called a coronal mass ejection, imagine it's like throwing a giant snowball from the top of a mountain.
When this charged plasma reaches Earth, it interacts with our planet’s magnetic field, kind of like how a toy car might bounce off a wall. This interaction can cause lights in the sky called auroras, or even make power lines buzz and computers glitch, just like when you plug too many toys into one outlet!
Examples
- Plasma travels through space and hits Earth’s atmosphere like a cosmic wave.
- When plasma reaches Earth, it can light up the sky with colorful lights.
