How Does Pigeon Post Work?

Pigeon post is when pigeons carry little messages from one place to another, like a special kind of delivery service.

Imagine you have a best friend who lives far away, and you want to tell them about your favorite toy. Instead of calling or texting (which we don’t have yet!), you write a short note on a piece of paper and put it in a tiny envelope. Then you give it to a pigeon, who flies all the way to your friend’s house and drops the envelope in their hand.

How the Pigeon Knows Where to Go

Pigeons are really good at finding their way home, kind of like how you know the way from school to your house. When they’re trained, they can fly to a specific place, just like a letter in the mail goes from one mailbox to another.

What Happens After the Pigeon Arrives

When the pigeon drops off the message at your friend’s house, they open the envelope and read what you wrote! Then they might write back on their own piece of paper and send it with another pigeon, and soon you’ll get a reply!

It’s like having a flying mailbox that brings letters from one person to another. Pretty cool, right?
