How Does Photosynthesis (UPDATED) Work?

Photosynthesis is how plants make their own food using sunlight, water, and air.

Imagine a plant as a little chef in a kitchen. The sun is like a bright light above the stove, giving energy. The water comes from deep underground, like a drink for the chef. And the air, especially the carbon dioxide, is like a special ingredient that floats around the kitchen.

How the Chef Cooks

The plant has tiny factories called chloroplasts inside its leaves, think of them as little cooking stations with green walls. These stations use sunlight to mix water and carbon dioxide, making glucose, which is like sweet food for the plant.

When it’s done cooking, the plant uses some of this food right away, and stores the rest for later, just like how a chef might save some cookies for tomorrow.

The Byproduct

While making glucose, the plant also makes oxygen. This oxygen gets released into the air, it's what we breathe in when we take a deep breath!

So every time you see a green leafy plant, it’s working hard like a little chef, turning sunlight and air into food and giving us something to breathe too! 🌿
