Acrophobia is when someone gets really scared because they’re up high, like on a tall building or a ladder.
Imagine you're standing on the first step of a giant staircase, it's easy to feel safe. But if you climb all the way to the top and look down, you might feel your heart race, your legs turn wobbly, and maybe even want to run back down. That’s acrophobia in action!
Like Standing on a Cloud
Think of being up high like standing on a fluffy cloud, soft and safe at first. But if that cloud suddenly disappears and you’re just floating above the ground, it might feel scary! You're still there, but now you're really far from where you started.
Why It Feels Scary
Sometimes our brain says, “I don’t like being so high up, I want to be safe again!” That’s why people with acrophobia might avoid things like bridges, tall buildings, or even climbing trees. They’re not afraid of falling (most of the time), but they just really want to feel grounded and safe.
