Personal identity is like having your own special superpower that lets you know you are still you, even when things change around you.
Imagine you're wearing a really cool hat, maybe it's red, has sparkles, and makes you feel super fancy. Now imagine you take off the hat. You’re still you, right? The hat is just an extra thing. But what if your body changed too? What if you became taller, or had a different color hair?
That’s kind of like what happens with personal identity, it's what makes you you even when your body or life changes.
Like a Puzzle
Think of your identity as a puzzle. Each piece is something about you, like your memories, your feelings, or even your favorite toy. If some pieces go missing, the picture might look different, but it’s still your picture. You're still you.
Even if you grow up and become a big kid, or maybe you move to a new city, that puzzle stays with you, and so does you.
Examples
