How Does Ordinal Numbers | On Your Mark, Get Set, Go! Work?

Ordinal numbers are like race positions, they tell you who came first, second, third, and so on.

Imagine you're at a race with your friends. When the race starts, everyone is on your mark, which means getting ready. Then you hear "get set", that’s when you take one last breath before running. Finally, "go!", that's when you all sprint off like little rockets!

In this race, the person who runs the fastest reaches the finish line first. That friend is first, or 1st. The next one is second, or 2nd. The third one is third, or 3rd, and so on.

You can think of ordinal numbers like stickers you get after a race:

  • 1st place gets the gold sticker,
  • 2nd place gets the silver sticker,
  • 3rd place gets the bronze sticker.

Just like how you count your toys in order, "one toy, two toys, three toys", ordinal numbers help you say who is first, second, or third in a line-up or race. Ordinal numbers are like race positions, they tell you who came first, second, third, and so on.
