Like a Hot Bath and a Fan
Imagine you're taking a hot bath, and then you turn on a fan, the warm water makes the air feel humid, while the fan cools it down. That’s kind of what happens with the ocean and the atmosphere. The ocean is like a giant bath, when it gets warm, it sends lots of moisture up into the air, making clouds and rain. When the wind blows, it helps carry that moisture far away, creating weather patterns.
Bigger Than a Bath
Now think about the whole Earth, the ocean covers more than two-thirds of it! The water in the ocean can be really hot or really cold, depending on where you are. When it’s warm, it sends up lots of heat and moisture, which helps make storms and rainy seasons. When it’s cool, it brings in cooler air, making winds and sometimes cold snaps.
So the ocean and atmosphere work like a team, one gives, the other takes, and together they create all sorts of weather that we feel every day!
Examples
- The ocean and the atmosphere work like a team to create weather, just like how two friends can make a great project together.
