How Does NHL Explanation of the New Playoff Format Work?

The NHL changed how teams playoffs work to make it more fun and give more chances for good teams to win.

Imagine you're playing a game with your friends, and instead of just picking the top 4 players from each group, now you get to pick the top 8, that’s like getting double the number of people in the final race. This is called the playoff format.

How the Playoff Format Works

In the old way, only the best teams went straight to the playoffs. Now, with the new format, more teams have a chance to get into the final game, it's like getting extra tries in a game of tag or extra turns in a board game.

There are eight teams from each group that make it to the playoffs, and they’re split into two groups: one on top and one at the bottom. These groups play against each other, like when you're playing a game with your siblings, sometimes the older kids play the younger ones first.

Then, the winners from each side face off in the final games, just like how you might have a championship match to decide who wins the whole game. This new way makes it more exciting and gives more teams a shot at winning!
