Lighting is all about how light moves from its source to what it shines on, just like how water flows from a tap to your cup.
Imagine you're playing with a flashlight in a dark room. When you point the flashlight straight at a toy car, the car gets bright light, and you can see every detail of it, like how it's shiny or if it has little bumps. That’s direct lighting, when the light hits something head-on.
Now, turn the flashlight so it shines on the wall next to the toy car. The toy car is in shadow, but the wall gets bright. This is like side lighting, it shows shapes and textures more clearly, kind of like how your face looks different in a photo when the light comes from the side.
If you move the flashlight far away, like across the room, the whole area becomes softly lit, this is diffused lighting, like when sunlight comes through a curtain on a cloudy day. It’s gentle and makes everything look calm and cozy.
Try it out with your favorite toys! Lighting changes how things look, just like different angles change how you play with them.
