Learning should be fun, just like playing your favorite game or eating a big scoop of ice cream on a hot day.
April McKnight talks about how learning is most effective when it feels like an adventure, not something you have to do because someone told you to. Think about when you learn to ride a bike: at first, you wobble and fall, but once you get the hang of it, it’s fun! That's how learning should feel, exciting and rewarding.
Why Fun Matters
When learning is fun, your brain wants to keep going. It's like when you're building with blocks, you don’t stop until your tower is super tall. You’re not thinking about how many blocks you’ve used, just that it’s fun to see it grow.
April says we should treat every new thing we learn like a puzzle or a game. If you can make learning feel like something you want to do, instead of something you have to do, then you'll remember it better and enjoy it more.
Examples
