How Does Key Points of Meditation: Being vs Doing Work?

Meditation is about being instead of doing, like playing with a toy instead of cleaning up after it.

Imagine you're sitting on the floor with your favorite stuffed animal. When you're doing work, it's like you're building a big tower with all your blocks, you have to focus hard and make sure everything stays up. That’s doing, it takes effort and you’re trying to achieve something.

But when you're being, it's more like just sitting there with your stuffed animal, breathing slowly, and letting your thoughts come and go, like clouds passing by in the sky. You don’t have to do anything special; you're just there, enjoying the moment.

Being is Like Listening to a Story

When you’re being, it's like listening to a story from Grandma. You don't need to do anything, you just listen, and sometimes even if you drift off for a little while, that’s okay. The story is still there when you come back.

Doing is Like Playing Tag

When you're doing, it's more like playing tag, you have to run, chase, and be focused on the game. You can't just stop and rest in the middle of it; you need to keep going.

So meditation helps us learn how to switch from being busy and active (doing) to calm and relaxed (being), just like switching between playing games and listening to stories.
