Henry VIII started a big change in England’s religion because he wanted to marry someone new and keep his power.
Henry VIII was like the boss of England, he ruled the country and made important decisions, including about religion. At first, England followed the Catholic Church, which is like a huge school that teaches people how to pray and what to believe. But when Henry wanted to marry Anne Boleyn instead of his wife Catherine, the Catholic Church said no, he couldn’t just leave his wife for someone new.
So Henry made a big decision: he created a new church in England called the Church of England, where he was like the boss too. This change is called the English Reformation. It’s like when you start your own club instead of joining someone else’s, now you make the rules!
This new church helped Henry keep his power and marry who he wanted, but it also changed how people worshipped for a long time after that.
