What Healthy Soil Does
Soil is the dirt we walk on, it’s full of tiny helpers like worms, bugs, and plants’ roots. These helpers work together to hold water, keep the ground from washing away, and help plants grow big and strong. Think of soil like a blanket for the land: when it's healthy, it holds everything in place and keeps things growing.
Where Soil is Suffering
But sometimes soil gets tired or hurt, just like how you might get tired after playing all day. When there’s too much rain or not enough water, or when people dig up the earth a lot (like when they build roads), the soil can get worn out. It might look crumbly and dry, or it might wash away in big chunks. This is like a blanket with holes, it can’t protect the land anymore.
In places where there’s not enough rain or too much farming, soil suffers. You can see this on hills that look like they’re losing their hair, the ground is getting thinner and thinner.
