How does gravity work and why do objects fall towards Earth?

Gravity is like a special pull that makes things fall to the ground.

Imagine you have a big ball and a small ball, both are on top of a hill. When you let them go, they start rolling down toward the bottom of the hill. That’s because the hill is higher up, and the balls want to move to where they’re lower. Earth works kind of like that hill. Everything around us, like you, your toys, or even a falling leaf, is being pulled toward Earth, just like those balls rolling down the hill.

Like a big magnet

Think about when you play with magnets. If you have two magnets and they’re close enough, one pulls the other toward it. Gravity works a bit like that, but instead of a magnet, Earth acts like a giant magnet, or even better, a giant sponge that everything wants to fall into.

So when you drop something, like your favorite toy, it doesn’t just poof away, it falls down because Earth is pulling it toward itself. That’s why we stay on the ground and why things fall when we let go of them!
