From seed to timber is like watching a tiny plant grow into a giant tree that can make tables and chairs.
Imagine you have a seed, it's like a tiny sleepy person inside a little bubble. When the seed gets water, sunlight, and some friendly dirt (called soil), it wakes up and starts growing. It sends out roots to drink from the ground and makes leaves to catch the sun. This is called germination, and it's how a tree begins its life.
How the Tree Grows
As time goes by, the tree keeps getting taller and wider, like stacking blocks one on top of another. It adds new layers around its body, which are called rings. Each ring is like a year in the tree’s life. The more rings there are, the older the tree is.
From Tree to Timber
When it's time to cut down the tree, maybe because it's old or needs to be turned into wood, loggers use big machines (or even just axes) to cut the tree. Then, the trunk is split into pieces called logs, which are later made into boards. These boards can become things like tables, chairs, and even your bed!
So from a tiny seed to a big piece of wood, it's all part of one amazing journey!
Examples
- A small pine seed becomes a tall pine tree that can be used to make wooden tables.
