Types of Bridges
There are different kinds of bridges, each using strong parts in special ways.
- A beam bridge is like stacking planks on two blocks, the planks go straight from one side to the other, just like when you put your hands out and hold up a blanket between you and your friend.
- An arch bridge has curved shapes that push down, like when you lean against a wall, it helps take the weight of cars without breaking!
- A suspension bridge uses long ropes to hang the road up high, like when you swing on a rope, the ropes hold everything together even when there are no supports under the road.
How They Work Together
Each kind of bridge is made to work best in its place, just like how your favorite toy works best when it’s used the way it was meant to be! Some bridges use more than one type, they’re like a team of strong friends working together.
And that’s how all kinds of bridges work, simple ideas that help people cross over big spaces every day!
Examples
- A beam bridge is like a diving board, it just sits on two supports.
- A suspension bridge looks like a spiderweb, with cables holding up the road.
