Even and odd numbers are like groups of friends who like to pair up or stand alone.
Imagine you have cookies to share with your friends.
If you have 2 cookies, you can give 1 to each friend, no one is left out. That’s an even number because it divides evenly into pairs.
But if you have 3 cookies, and you try to pair them up, one cookie will be left alone. That’s an odd number, there's always one extra that doesn’t get a partner.
What Makes Numbers Even or Odd
Numbers are even if they can be split into two equal groups without any leftovers.
6 ÷ 2 = 3, no cookie is left behind!
Numbers are odd if splitting them into two groups leaves one extra.
7 ÷ 2 = 3 with 1 leftover, that’s like the last cookie standing alone.
You can tell a number is even by looking at its last digit: if it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, it's even. If it ends in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, it's odd, just like your cookie friends!
