A differential is like a special gear system that lets your car’s wheels move at different speeds when you turn a corner.

Imagine you're riding a bike with two wheels, one on each side. When you go straight, both wheels spin the same amount. But when you turn, the wheel on the outside of the turn has to cover more ground than the inside wheel. That means it needs to spin faster!

A differential works like a smart gear box in your car’s back (or front) that lets each wheel move at its own speed. It takes the power from the engine and splits it between the two wheels. When you turn, the gears inside the differential let one wheel go faster than the other, just like how you twist your body to make the outside of your bike wheel go faster when you turn.

Like a Playground Slide

Think of the differential as a slide in a playground. If both kids on the slide want to go down at the same speed, they’ll move together. But if one kid wants to go faster than the other, the slide lets them each move at their own pace, and still get to the bottom!
