A goal is what you want to achieve, and an objective is a step you take to get there, like building a tower out of blocks.
Imagine you want to go to the park. That's your goal. But to get there, you might need to put on shoes, grab your favorite snack, and walk outside. Each of those things, putting on shoes, grabbing a snack, walking, is an objective. They help you reach your goal.
Like Building a Castle
Think of your goal as the castle you want to build. The objectives are the bricks, the doors, and the windows. Without each brick (each objective), the castle (the goal) wouldn’t stand.
Sometimes people confuse goals and objectives, like thinking the snack is the whole reason for going to the park. But really, it’s just one small part of the fun journey!
So remember: goals are the big picture, and objectives are the little steps you take to get there.
Examples
- A goal is like wanting to get fit, while an objective is like deciding to run three times a week.
- If your goal is to pass an exam, an objective could be studying for two hours every day.
- You might have the goal of saving money, and one objective could be cutting back on coffee expenses.
