How Does Contract Law in 2 Minutes Work?

Contract law is like a special agreement between friends that makes sure everyone plays fair.

Imagine you and your friend decide to trade toys, you give them your favorite dinosaur, and they give you their cool robot. That’s a contract! It’s like saying, “I promise I’ll give you my dinosaur if you give me your robot.”

What Makes a Contract Work?

A good contract needs a few things:

  • Both people have to agree on what they’re doing, just like when you and your friend both say “Deal!”
  • They should know what the other person is giving them, like knowing your friend’s robot is actually cool.
  • There has to be something valuable being exchanged, like toys or snacks.

What Happens If Someone Breaks the Deal?

If one of you breaks the deal, like they take your dinosaur but don’t give you their robot, that’s a problem! That’s called breaching the contract. Then you can talk about it and maybe even ask for something else, just like when you tell your friend, “You promised me a robot!”
