An Nd:YAG laser is like a flashlight that shines super bright and super focused light, made from special materials inside it.
Imagine you have a big box filled with tiny energy balls, these are called neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet, or Nd:YAG for short. When you power the box on, the energy balls start to get excited and bounce around a lot, this is like when kids in a gym run around after they're given lots of energy.
Now imagine there are two mirrors at either end of the box, one that lets some light out and one that reflects all the light back. The bouncing energy balls hit these mirrors many times, making them even more excited and powerful.
Eventually, the light becomes so strong that it can go through the mirror that lets light out. This light is laser, which stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It's like a supercharged flashlight beam!
This focused laser light is used in lots of cool ways, like cutting materials or helping doctors see inside our bodies!

- It's similar to how a microwave heats food, but instead of microwaves, it uses crystals and light
