Cognitive dissonance is when your brain gets confused because you believe two things that don’t go together, like saying "I love ice cream" but eating a whole tub by yourself and feeling guilty about it.
What’s Cognitive Dissonance Like?
Imagine you have a favorite toy, let's say a red dinosaur. You think it's the best toy ever. But then you get a green dinosaur too, and now you're not sure which one is better. Your brain gets confused because you like both, but they can't both be the best at the same time.
How It Makes You Feel
When your brain is confused, it might make you feel upset or even try to fix things. Maybe you say the red dinosaur is still better, that helps your brain feel less confused. Or maybe you start liking the green one more and forget about the red one.
It's like when you eat too much candy and then feel bad, but you tell yourself it was worth it. Your brain is trying to make everything fit together again!
