How Does Basic Measurement For Kids | Learn about Height, Length Work?

Measuring height and length is like counting steps when you walk from one end of a room to the other, it’s just comparing how much space something takes up.

Height is how tall something is, like how many blocks you stack on top of each other. If you stand next to a tree, your height is how far from the ground to the top of your head. A ruler or a tape measure can help you see how many inches or centimeters you are, just like counting blocks!

Length is how long something is, like how many steps it takes to walk from one wall to another in your room. If you lay out a ribbon on the floor, its length is how far it stretches from one end to the other.

Using Simple Tools

You can use things you find around the house, like a ruler, a string, or even your hands! If you put your hand beside something and see if it matches up, that’s comparing length. You can also use blocks or books stacked on top of each other to measure how tall something is.

Measuring is just counting in a special way, it helps us know how big or small things are, and it's fun to do!
