Autoimmune disease is when your body’s defense team starts attacking you by mistake.
Imagine your body is like a castle, and your immune system is the group of guards who protect it. Normally, these guards know who's friendly, like the mailman or your best friend, and who's not, like a thief trying to get in. But with autoimmune disease, the guards sometimes think you're the enemy, even though you’re just doing your job.
How It Feels
When this happens, your body gets symptoms, like when you have a sore throat or a rash. These are signs that something is wrong and the guards are fighting back. Sometimes it feels like your body is having a big argument with itself!
Why It Happens
The cause isn’t always clear, but it’s like when the guards get confused. Maybe they saw a thief wearing a hat just like yours, so they start thinking you're the thief too! This confusion can come from things like stress or even something you eat.
Sometimes your body is just extra sensitive, and it doesn't take much to make the guards go on high alert. That's why autoimmune disease can feel different for everyone, like how some kids get excited about ice cream, while others don’t care at all!
