How Does Ancient Rome Compare to Modern Cities?

Ancient Rome was like a giant toy city that grew up to be real, big and busy, just like today’s cities.

Rome had lots of people, kind of like when you have all your friends at your house for a party. It had roads, which are like the paths you walk on every day, but in Rome they were long enough to run from one end of the city to the other, just imagine running from your bedroom to your friend’s house, and that's how big it was!

Buildings in Rome were like giant blocks stacked up high. They had bathhouses, which are kind of like super fancy showers where people went to relax, just like you go to the park to play.

Modern cities have roads too, but they're like highways with cars zooming by. They also have buildings that can be taller than the tallest tree in your backyard. And instead of bathhouses, we have gyms and swimming pools, where people go to get fit or cool off on a hot day.

So Ancient Rome was like a really big, fun toy city, just not as high-tech as today’s cities! Ancient Rome was like a giant toy city that grew up to be real, big and busy, just like today’s cities.
