Almost every type of laughing works by making your body move and sound funny, just like when you play with a toy that makes silly noises.
Laughing starts in your brain, it’s like getting a surprise from a friend. When something funny happens, your brain sends messages down your spine to your diaphragm, which is a muscle under your lungs. This muscle helps you breathe, and when it goes up and down fast, it makes a whoosh sound.
At the same time, your abdominal muscles, the ones you use when you do sit-ups, squeeze in and out, making funny sounds like "ha-ha" or "hee-hee."
Your face also plays along. Your mouth opens wide, your eyes get big, and sometimes your cheeks puff up, it’s like blowing up a balloon with air!
Sometimes, people laugh so hard they even shake their whole body, like when you're playing tag and run really fast.
So whether you're laughing at a joke or a silly face, your brain, muscles, and face all work together to make you feel happy, just like when you jump into a pile of leaves! 🍂
