What Makes Winter Happen
Imagine Earth is like a spinning top. As it spins around the Sun, sometimes one side gets closer to the Sun, that’s summer, and sometimes it moves farther away, that’s winter. When Earth tilts so we're farther from the Sun, the days get shorter, and the nights get longer. That's why it feels colder outside.
How Winter Feels
When it's cold enough, water freezes, just like when you put a glass of water in the fridge, and it turns into ice cubes. In winter, sometimes that happens all over, making snowflakes fall from the sky. Snow is like tiny, fluffy sugar crystals that land on your head, making everything look white and soft.
What Kids Do in Winter
Kids love to play in the snow, they build snowmen, slide down hills (sledding), or wear warm clothes and go out to ice skate. Sometimes, parents even bring out hot chocolate to keep everyone warm inside after a long day of playing in the cold.
Winter is like a cozy blanket for Earth, it wraps everything in cool, snowy fun!
Examples
